After doing a short term volunteering placement in Nicosia, Cyprus in 2022, I decided to return for a long term placement with Home for Cooperation. It was a pleasure to be a part of such a supportive and caring team again. I helped with tasks such as social media awareness campaigns, administration, and volunteer coordination during their infamous performing arts festival the ‘Buffer Fringe’ that takes place across the divide, bringing both the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot sides together.
Just being in the buffer zone was an incredible experience that has certainly enriched my knowledge and understanding of politics, conflict, peace and cooperation in Nicosia.
I am sad to leave this special place, however, during my time spent here, Cyprus has now become a second home to me and I know I will be back very soon to visit! I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to do this placement and I would encourage anyone to go for it as you never know where it will take you 🙂
